Jason Rothe
I am a writer and multimedia storyteller from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. My work has appeared in numerous books and publications including the Utne Reader, The Walrus, Explore Magazine, The Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star, “Rainforest Warriors” by Richard Price and “The Riverbones” by Andrew Westoll. Recently, my work won the Orion Magazine award at the 2009 Our World Portfolio Review for portfolio that best that fits the mission of Orion magazine, which is to deepen an understanding of our relationships with the natural world.
Having just spent a year and a half living in Buenos Aires, Argentina and bringing my Spanish up to an advanced level, I have now relocated to Vancouver where I will continue work on The Ethnomusicologist, a new media channel dedicated to exploring the intersection between music and society. Two pilot projects for this publication are “Fuego y Tambor” which delves into the sociopolitical importance of Candombe drumming in Uruguay, and another on the music of the Mbyá Guarani indigenous of northern Argentina.
